An Update From Your Favorite Bias Breaker 🤗
Summer is the time to rest, recover, and discern what's next
Dear ones,
After four years of non-stop movement around writing and promoting Breaking Bias and twelve years of building BE MORE, I’ve come to a place where my tank is empty.
As I’ve shared before, this past year has been a tough one for personal, professional, and existential reasons. After much reflection, I’ve made the decision to take some time to rest. For the past few weeks, I’ve been debating what rest really means. Is it to escape to a faraway beach and stare at the ocean? Is it to go on another meditation or yoga retreat? Is it to pick up another skill like pottery, Bhangra dancing, swimming, or calligraphy? (All things I’ve seriously considered! 😊).
But after spending an inordinate amount of time planning a trip to Bali, or traveling to the ancient Buddhist sites in Japan, or signing up for swimming lessons nearby, I heard a loud and clear voice inside: I don’t need another thing to do or another place to run away to. I need to actually be here, to be more with Anu. How ironic, right?
I noticed that the overwhelm, distress, despair, confusion, grief, and the host of other afflictive emotions I feel are not mine. They are within my awareness and consciousness, but I didn’t create them. Instead, they have been transmitted into my consciousness through my engagement with media and technology, and the burnout that I feel is actually, in the words of my Guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, information constipation.
So I’ve decided to take the summer to digest all that has happened and is happening within and without me in our nation and world, with a deep desire to uncover: How can I respond? how can I help?
For the past two decades, every morning, I have asked the Divine to make me an instrument for social justice on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Having shared most everything I could teach about breaking bias and challenging bigotry, stereotyping, and prejudice in my book, Breaking Bias, I find myself at a new new fork of my professional career. What can I offer to build on this body of work? This is the adventure I hope to be on these coming few months, culminating with my 40th birthday in September.
I’ve been feeling a bit stressed about sharing this with you out of fear of disappointing you, but I know that these fears are unskillful old habits keeping me stuck in the patterns of scarcity, media addiction, and doomsday thinking. I say all this to share that I am going to be quiet here and across my socials from now until early September.
With that said, there are a few things I’d like to share with you that you can look forward to reading or listening to while I am away.
Breaking Bias was just awarded Best Book in the Social Change category (the best category for my work 😉) in the 2025 Next Generation Indie Books Award and the 2025 International Book Awards. I am so humbled and honored! I hope you’ll take the summer to read or listen to Breaking Bias. If you’ve already done so, please don’t forget to share your thoughts and hopefully ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ on Amazon and Goodreads! Thank you!
Lion’s Roar: “Find Freedom From Bias”
Pick up the July issue of Lion’s Roar to read my essay, “Find Freedom from Bias,” where I provide a glimpse of my engagement with Buddhist practices to help us heal from internalized discrimination. In particular, I speak about the somatically informed experiences of faith, wisdom, and compassion. You can also read the article here.
Spirituality & Health Magazine
Pick up the July/August issue of Spirituality & Health Magazine. I had the absolute joy of sharing my perspective on bias and spirituality with Karen Brailsford. In the ancient Vedas of my Hindu lineage, bias—particularly race/caste prejudice, pride of pedigree, and a narrow sense of respectability—are three out of the eight kinds of meanness of the heart that are obstacles in the way to freedom, salvation, or liberation. I speak about this heritage and so much more in this interview. I hope you get a chance to read it.
🔹 Follow along on YouTube and Spotify
During the summer, my team will be uploading lots of new content from our courses, summits, and video library to my YouTube page. Please subscribe my YouTube channel to get reminders about this content!
I’ve also had over 50 podcast conversations about the polycrisis we are facing, and how breaking bias, neuro-decolonization, and shifting our consciousness is the most important work of the 21st century.
You can find all of these podcasts in this Spotify playlist. Stay posted for a few more that we’ll add this summer, including my conversation with Chris Duffy at TED, Paula Felps on Live Happy, Daniel Aitken on the Wisdom Podcast, and a few more really exciting ones…including one that may have to do with telepathy 😊 😊.
Thank you so much for reading and for your ongoing support. Feel free to reach out to my team at info@bemorewithanu.com if you need anything. I look forward to reconnecting and sharing more about my adventures ahead this Fall.
Have a restful summer!
With all my love,
Anu
So glad you are taking time to rest and integrate and fill your cup. That is crucial and vital. You'd deserve it even if you did nothing, btw, and you've scaled mountains. :) Sending love!
Beautiful insight… congratulations… I look forward to reading your book this summer🌹
